What is a data center? A. A data center is a computer facility designed for continuous use by several users, and well equipped with hardware, software, peripherals, power conditioning and backup, communication equipment, security systems, etc. In a data center, servers, storage and network devices must be properly maintained and upgraded. This includes operating systems, security patches, applications and system resources such as memory, storage and CPUs. Use server-based energy management software tools to run workloads in the most energy-efficient way. This may include taking advantage of lower energy tariffs at different times. The rise in technology and a changing corporate landscape have presented data center operators new challenges. Server virtualization is the masking of server resources (including the number and identity of individual physical servers, processors, and operating systems) from server users. The intention is to spare the user from having to understand and manage complicated details of server resources while increasing resource sharing and utilization and maintaining the capacity to expand later. Virtualization can optimize fewer servers to run at higher performance levels. Many IT departments encourage users to save critical data to available network servers under the control of enterprise software. This policy, in most cases, is not successful, since users store data locally, especially mobile users who are seldom connected to a network. With the Cisco UCS M71KR-E and M71KR-Q adapters, a maximum of two adapters are presented to the VMware ESX hypervisor running on the blade. Each of these adapters can be defined within the Cisco Unified Computing System as connected to an individual fabric interconnect and, optionally, enabling a failover to the other. This fabric failover enables a model in which the virtual machine data can use one path within the Cisco Unified Computing System by default, and all other connections can go on the other path. The Green IT approach can include several different phases in the lifecycle of a product – the development, production, usage and disposal of IT. Development must grant consideration to the environment; the production must take place using environmentally friendly production methods; the IT solutions must be used in an environmentally friendly manner; and finally, IT waste must be disposed of in an environmentally correct manner. All of these phases are supported by research and innovation in Green IT. According to one aspect of the invention, a data storage system includes a disk drive array including a plurality of disk drives; a first storage processor for controlling the operation of the data storage system; a second storage processor forcontrolling the operation of the data storage system; a first arbiter for controlling communication of data from the first storage processor and the second storage processor to a first group of disk drives of the disk drive array; and a second arbiterfor controlling communication of data from the first storage processor and the second storage processor to a second group of disk drives of the disk drive array. Selected data is redundantly stored on disk drives in the first group of disk drives andthe second group of disk drives, such that, upon failure of the first arbiter, the selected data is available to the first storage processor and the second storage processor through the second arbiter. The Cisco Nexus 1000V allows policy to move with a virtual machine during live migration ensuring persistent network, security, and storage compliance resulting in improved business continuance, performance management, and security compliance. |
